Slip-On Loose Flanges are removable flanges, typically used on plumbing fittings (most commonly expansion joints). They ship with a flange at each end, allowing them to be bolted directly to the pipes and equipment in the project. The purpose of using slip-on flange is generally to save material. They consist of two parts: one end of the pipe connects to the pipe, and the other end is flanged, onto which the flange fits. The flange is made of low-grade material, while the pipe is made of the same material as the pipe, thus saving material.
Slip-On Loose Flanges:
1. Cost Savings. When the pipe material is special and expensive, welding flanges made of the same material is costly.
2. They are difficult to weld or process, or require high strength, such as plastic pipes and fiberglass pipes.
3. They are easier to install. For example, alignment of the flange bolt holes during connection can be difficult, or they can prevent displacement of the flange bolt holes during equipment replacement.
Disadvantages of Slip-On Loose Flanges:
1. Low pressure resistance.
2. Low strength at the weld ring (especially when thickness is less than 3mm).
